Yes, I have a flu...again. I have had it, off and on, for two weeks. And, as most of you can appreciate, it is hard to write anything when your head is spinning like a top.
I can tell you about these photos...if I remember correctly, they were taken in 1996 in England. All my photos seem to be taken in England, except when I am on the Boob Cruise. And, these photos were from what everybody seems to call my hirsute breakout, or renaissance. You see, in the '90s, men have gotten so used to the "patch"…I know SCORE's editor -in-chief John Fox calls it the "landing strip." Very popular with dancers, and with lots of women who like to wear those small bikinis. I have never gotten into that, and I have always preferred the natural look. Still, when I first started posing, I shaved most of my body hair. Why? Because the photographer told me that's what everybody did. Even after I shaved, I still had more than most. These photos and the other photo sets like it…there were two, or three, or four, I can't really remember…these were the first ones of me unshaven. Hirsute splendor, it was called, and many people have actually told me I was an innovator and quite daring for allowing myself to be shown like this.
Daring? An innovator? Me? I always found that funny. I was an innovator for just being myself and for actually going back in time to when women didn't shave. Still, I always found it strange that I was being featured as an all-natural model, and I had to shave. Now, I think there is a renaissance of "naturalness" happening. More and more women are letting themselves go, not worrying about plastic surgery and realizing that there isn't one standard for beauty...that we (women) are all beautiful. Men, too. They shouldn't worry about hair pieces, their beer-belly, or ridiculous things like that. Just be yourself. Some people will like you. Some people will not. Believe me, nobody's perfect. I know I'm not, and I wouldn't expect other people to be. As long as you're a nice person, and a good person, and you don't try to be something you are not, you will do just fine.
Which is the long reason as to why I like the hirsute look and won't have a "landing strip." Afterall, I don't even like to fly.
